Visit to the IMC!

After visiting the Instructional Material Center in the basement of Belk Library I feel very good about the assignments that we will be completing this semester.  The IMC has a large section of picture books as well as chapter books that I will be able to use to complete my reader response logs.  In the picture book section of the library there are also big story books that can be used in classrooms of younger children.   The IMC also houses a section of bibliography and informational books that will be very helpful in doing our author project.  One section of books in the library is totally devoted to books which are Caldecott Medal winners.  These books are not allowed to leave the library, therefore they will always be available for me to go into the library and use.  On the top of the picture book shelves there are racks that have informational sheets about the different types of literature that we will be studying such as a list of Caldecott and Newbery Medal winners as well as book list for the different genres that we will be studying such as traditional literature, science fiction, poetry books for children, and modern fantasy.  All of the books on these list are available in the IMC for the use of education students.  The IMC also has a section of textbooks and classroom resources that can help students to find activities for lesson plans or projects that we are working on.  To help us education students when we are making projects or activities for a classroom the Idea Factory is open for students to use the equipment inside it to create crafts, and posters, ect. for our  classes.
